Preventing Ageism in Healthcare
Can you see yourself at 90 years of age? 100? What does that look like to you? How do you think healthcare practitioners will treat you? In an ideal world, it is with compassion, dignity, and best practices. Unfortunately, this may not be the case in healthcare today. In this course, you will learn about ageism. We will discuss what ageism is and the effects ageism has on patients. Case studies will emphasize the pervasiveness of ageism. You will also learn evidence-based approaches to prevent ageism in your healthcare setting. This course is applicable to any practitioner who interacts with older adults.
Joint Therapy for the Older Adult
Presented by Stefany Shaibi, PT, DPT, OCS, GCS
Joint Therapy for the Older Adult
Is it safe to use manual therapy for older patients with impaired joint mobility? How effective is manual therapy for older adults? Sadly, manual therapy interventions are not used as frequently in this population, even in the absence of precautions and contraindications. At the end of this course, the learner will have a thorough understanding of impaired joint mobility of the extremities in the older adult. Not only will the learner be able to determine the appropriateness of manual therapy for elderly patients, but they will also learn about evidence-based interventions aimed at improving mobility. This course will provide a broader understanding of manual therapy.
Aging Muscle
Presented by Stefany Shaibi, PT, DPT, OCS, GCS
Aging Muscle
Muscles undergo several physiologic changes with normal aging. There are also many older adults who suffer from sarcopenia. Unfortunately, this condition is rarely addressed as a primary impairment. This course is designed to give the learner a thorough understanding of sarcopenia, as well as other factors that can affect muscle performance during the aging process. The causes and effects of sarcopenia will be discussed, and the pathophysiology will be reviewed. Current literature will be presented regarding interventions for sarcopenia. At the end of this course, the learner will have an improved understanding of impaired muscle performance and be more effective treating older patients.

Presented by Stefany Shaibi, PT, DPT, OCS, GCS
Considerations for the Older Post-Operative Orthopedic Patient

It is important to assess for potential complications and understand the effect of aging on the prognosis. After completing this course, the learner will be more prepared to safely treat this population.
The Aging Spine
